WORKING STUDENTS


General Requirements


  • Working students work a regular weekly shift of feeding and mucking and get paid in lesson credits.

  • Working student shifts are roughly 90 minutes and pay $20 in lesson credit per shift.

  • Minimum commitment of 3 months after a 2 week trial period.

  • Students need only sign up for one shift a week, but that is their shift for the next 3 months. Students that cannot make a regular weekly shift are not eligible for work exchange.

  • ***Work exchange is not available to brand new students. Only students that have been taking lessons at SMSH for at least 3 months are eligible.


Typical Chores


  • Mucking stalls

  • Mucking arena

  • Cleaning and filling waters as necessary

  • Putting out hay and grain as needed

  • **Occasional chores include cleaning tack, grooming, tacking up a horse, or helping new students with getting their horse ready for their lesson.


Missing Shifts


  • Life happens, sometimes you’ll have to miss a shift. Please give 24 hours’ notice prior to missing a working student shift.

  • If missing shifts becomes a regular occurrence, the student will no longer be eligible to continue with the work exchange program.
